I am sitting all alone in a cafe in the Rose production area of Morocco. Lots of shops selling distilled rose products. I popped into a few of the shops but all the products smell very sweet and sickly. Also the packaging is what you would expect in a Pound Shop, which I suppose these shops sort of are, but they all look a bit tacky to buy as a present.
I was so tempted to buy one of those curved Moroccan knives. I was chatting to the owner of the shop and he said he made them there. He then showed me how he could hammer the outline of a circle in a peice of metal. Hmmmm, I thought, there is a big difference between hitting a bit of metal with a hammer and making one of those ornate knives in its ornate sheath. So I picked up one that was about 8 inches long, he said it takes him 4 days to make. I said “here” he said “yes, I sit on the chair and with my hammer I make it”. I looked closer and saw the cast lines from where it was cast in a mold, yes right!!! The only thing not visible was the made in China Mark. So I wished him well and went on my way.
I am also sitting by a curious collection of rocks on a hill. The map says I am at Tizi.
So, why have I been abandoned? It looks like all that tough off roading has caused that issue I had on the ferry to flair up again. So this morning I thought I better take it easy, especially as the trail section today is 100km and is expected to take them 6 hours of tough riding. Today I would prefer to not get All Shook Up.
