The start of my trip to Helsinki is at Wrabfest 2017, a small open air music festival near Harwich in Essex. The overnight ferry goes from Harwich to Hook of Holland, hence why I am here. I grew up in Harwich so it was great I could visit my mother who still lives in Harwich and meet up with my sister at Wrabfest. Ok, not quite Glastonbury but still good fun.
I have been very lucky with the weather as those in the UK know that the weather has been abysmal. At one point I thought my whole journey from London to Helsinki would be in the rain. But I could be very very very lucky as there appears to be a break in the weather that lasts the next few days. I could get as far as the Malmo bridge that joins Denmark and Sweden without getting wet. Fingers crossed.
From the festival, I could see the Grayson Perry (the ceramics artist) building that was designed as a guest house that is also a piece of art. You can book it and stay the night. So on the way back to my mothers to get my gear, I thought I would pop down and see it. Been told off already........... I drove down a lane to where the house is and was told to go away. Ok, it was a private road I admit, but it is a self-confessed piece of art by Grayson Perry. But obviously, they don't like people visiting. Nice building though.
Great day at Wrabfest, a good start to your long trip. Happy sailing/riding
