Fitting the Rally Raid Bash plate means that I can not fit a center stand. Not much of an issue at home, but if on the road it may be a bit of an inconvenience if I want to lift the rear wheel off the ground to make cleaning the chain easier.
I was going to buy a purpose built Trail Stand, but thought I would have a go at making one as they look quite basic. The idea of one is to place under the right side of the bike. It works like a second side stand, but on the other side of the bike. So when in position the rear wheel is lifted off the ground.
Please note I used aluminum tube. I have tubeless tires. If I was going to use this to take a wheel off I would make it with stainless steel tube. I am only going to use it to help clean the chain by lifting the back wheel 20mm off the ground so it can rotate. If it folds on me the worst that will happen is the rear wheel will drop 20mm to the ground, so no stress.
So this cost nothing as I had all the scraps in the garage.
1 x 30cm 20mm Aluminum tube
1 x 30cm 15mm Aluminum tube
1 copper water pipe T joint
1 bolt and wing nut
1 inside of a RAW Bolt
The copper T peice is inserted into the end of the 20mm pipe to form an L to hook under the foot peg mount. The Duct Tape is used only to stop the jack from scratching the bike.
The inside of the Raw Bolt, a thread with a solid cone on the end, forms the foot.

Really easy to use. Just put in position and tilt the bike away from you onto the side stand. You can use your foot to just push the Trail Stand into position. This is enough to give about 20mm of clearance to allow the rear wheel to be spun.
Don't forget to strap the front brake on to stop the bike rolling forward.
Took about an hour and saved me £40 odd.
I will use it for a few months and then look to improve it. I may even make a new one out of stainless in the future to allow things like taking the wheel off. I might make a bigger foot as well in case I need to do this on grass, or have the feet interchangeable. In any case, I will post any improvements and problems that I find.
Anyway, just a quick DIY job.
